Foxton managed to get its best team away to play Fevin on Saturday, but met defeat at the hands of its opponents. The games were stubbornly contested throughout and at the finish the home team won by the narrow margin of only one set. The scores are as under : men’s singles, Hennessy (F) beat Pringle (F), 6 —3 ; Jackson (F) beat Harper (F), 6—l ; Phillips (F) beat Cutfield (F), 6—5 ; McHattie (F) beat Richter (F), 6—2 ; Burgess (F) beat Randerson (F), 6—2 ; Holdaway (F) beat Gabites (F), 6—4. ladies’ singles. Miss Stuckey (F) beat Miss Wanklyn (F), 6—3 ; Miss McHardie (F) beat Mrs Gardener (F), 6—2 ; Miss Wilson (F) beat Miss Edwards (F), 6 —o ; Miss Davies (F) beat Miss Fraser (F), 6—5. combined doubles. Pringle and Miss Stuckey (F) beat Hennessy and Miss Wanklyn (F), 6 —3; Harper and Mrs Gardener (F) beat Jackson and Miss McHardie (F), 6—l ; Burgess and Miss Edwards (F'l beat Cutfield and Miss Wilson (F), 6—4 ; Richter and Miss Davies (F) beat Gabites and Miss Fraser (F), 6 —o. men’s doubles. Hennessy and Jackson (F) beat Pringle and Harper (F), 6—3 ; Cutfield and Richter (F) beat Philips and McHattie (F), 6—2 ; Burgess and Gabites (F) beat Randerson and Holdaway (F), 6—o. LADIES’ DOUBLES, Miss Stuckey and Mrs Gardener (F), beat Misses Wanklyn and McHardie (F) 6—2 ; Misses Wilson and Davies (F) beat Misses Edwards and Fraser (F) 6—2. Final results : Fevin 10 sets (82 games), Foxton 9 sets (76 games). At the close of the match the secretary, Mr Gabites, on behalf of the Foxton players, thanked the members of the Fevin Club for the excellent afternoon’s sport they had provided and extended them a hearty invitation to visit Foxton for a return match next Saturday, an invitation that the Fevin players promptly accepted.
