THE GASWORKS.

The manager reported at last night’s Council meeting on the working of the Gas Works for the month of February as follows : Gas in holder on February Ist, 2000 ft.; gas manufactured, 275,000 ft.; total, 277.000 ft. Gas sold to consumers, lighting 155,000 ft., engines and cooking 63,000 ft.; used in street lamps, 26,500 ft. ; works and manager’s house, 28,000 ft.; in holder on March Ist, 2500 ft.; leaving 2000 ft. unaccounted for. Twenty-three tons of coal was carbonised, producing 11,956 ft. of gas per ton. The earnings amounted to ,£137 2s 4d, made up of gas sales £9l 16s 7d, tar sales 14s, coke sales 3s 6d, fitting (wages) ,£1 ss, weighing 3s 6d, and fittings ,£36 19s 9d. The expenditure totalled ,£ll6 11s 2d, made up of coal ;£2B 3s 6d, wages £2H 16s, and interest and sinking fund ,£59 11s Bd.
