The following interesting statement concerning the receipts and expenditure of the Foxton-Sausou tram were handed to the Hon. Mr Herries, Minister for Railways, by the Chairman of the Manawatu County Council at Martou on Friday last: —March 31, 1906, receipts expenditure 1908, ; 1909, 1912, ;6U57. £5953. Included iu the expenditure is expended for new rails and fa*?teuings and sleepers for relaying with 401 b rails. for a new and more powerful locomotive, and ,£6OO for rebuilding one locomotive, and making it suitable for the traffic. From 1905 to 1912, the merchandise carried increased from 729 tons to 1.893 tons, and the wool from 1915 bales to 2664 bales. For the year ended December 31, 1912, 790 tons of grass seed was exported from the district and 901 tons of grain ; 1000 tons of coal were imported and and 362 tons of manure, while 5200yds of metal was hauled for road purposes. The distance from Marion to Himataugi was 48 miles, and from Himatangi to Pukeuui 18 miles, a total of 66 miles, while from Martou to Pukenui (the proposed extension) was only 9 miles.
