BIRTHS AND DEATHS.

NEW REGISTRATION LAW. New regulations governing the registration of births, marriages and deaths, as enacted by the Amending Act of last session, come in force on March Ist next. The chief changes are the following :

A town birth must be notified to the registrar (who, at Foxton, is Mr A. U, Clemett, local postmaster) within 48 hours. In the country districts 21 days are still allowed. The period of 62 days allowed for the subsequent complete registration remains unchanged. Still births must now be registered also. The undertaker is held responsible to register deaths in all cases. The period allowed is three days in a town, and seven days in the country.

On the registration of each birth the previous issue of the marriage must also be registered with it.

Ou the registratiou of the death of a married man, the age of his widow must be stated with it, for statistical purposes. Children born prior to the passing of the Act may still be registered up to November 7th next ou application to the Regis-trar-General.
