TOWN CLERK’S REPORT.

The Town Clerk submitted the following report on the workings of the borough for the past month, at Monday night’s meeting ot the Council: —

‘•There is very little to report in connection with the roads this mouth, owing to the impossibility of getting shingle from Jackeytown. The men have not been able to proceed with the manufacture of asphalt for the Main Street footpaths, and unless it comes forward quickly, that work will have to stand over, to enable the men to clean out the drains. The same remarks apply to the tarring of Main Street road formation. The water channels iu Main and Clyde Streets have been cleaned out, ruts repaired in Norbiton road, Baker street, Park street, and Avenue road, also No. 6 Line and Lady’s Mile, the Norbiton road culvert completed, trees trimmed and lupins grubbed at Victoria Park, Moutoa road cutting cleaned out, and lupins grubbed and well in Union street cleaned out. “I would recommend that the sun-light at the Town Hall be taken out, and an electrolier be substituted, to be supplied from storage batteries, which could be charged while the engine is running for picture shows. The sun-light has not been a success, and nearly half the original cost has been expended on repairs to it, and it is now worse than ever. Mr Stunell frankly states that he doesn’t know what to do with it. We have had experts up from Wellington, and all in vain.” The report was adopted with the exception of- the last paragraph, the following motion, dealing with this portion, being passed ; —Proposed by Cr Adams, seconded by Cr Speirs, that the Town Clerk obtain price of installation iu Town Hall of electrolier with suitable storage battery to run three nights at least, and report same to a special meeting of the Council.
