Dannevirkk, Feb. 3
A native known as Sam David, residing at Tahoraite, appeared before the Justices this morning charged with threatening to discharge a loaded firearm at his wife with intent to maim or disfiguie her. The occurrence took place at Tahoraite on Saturday at 6 p.m. Accused quarrelled with his wife and threatened to shoot her and she ran to a neighbour’s ; accused followed with a guu at trail some distance away. On reaching the house where his wife had taken refuge the owner thereof came out and tried to take the gun off accused, but only succeeded in extracting the cartridges. Accused then went back with the gun to his whare, where he was subsequently arrested. His wife declined to give evidence against him, but his eleven-year-old daughter told the above story. Accused pleaded not guilty, and was committed for trial at Palmerston North. Bail was allowed, accused and two sureties of each.
