SHOOTING SENSATION AT LEVIN.

At Levin Police Court on Tuesday afternoon, John Horrocks Whellan was charged with shooting at John Wilkinson. The evidence disclosed that Wilkinson arrived from Wellington by train, and was followed to accused’s house by accused. The latter located Wilkinson in a front bedroom, Wilkinson bolted, and accused fired as Wilkinson negotiated the hedge in front of the house. Wilkinson called out that he had been shot, and this so alarmed accused that he fell on the ground and roared. Wilkinson, however, was not injured.

The affair is the result of domestic infelicity. Accused, who is suffering from nervous shock, was admitted to bail in his own recognisance of aud the case was adjourned until 4111 February.
