NOTES.
The Auckland horseman, J. Conquest, has a number of engagements to rile at the local meeting.
Muleteer has been going on the right way since the Stratford meeting, and should be quite ready to do his best in the local club’s cup on Tuesday,
J. Peachey, the trainer of Serenity, has him very fit for the Hack Hurdles here on Tuesday. The son of Handsome Jack should show to advantage and no doubt will gain a good deal of support.
In conversation with the secretary of the local racing club we were informed that every available loose box in the town has been procured for horses taking part in the forthcoming meeting. He added that the club would have to consider the advisability of erecting accommodation for horses attending future meetings. Some good fields should be seen at the local meeting next week, but it is hard to say whether they will equal The Trial Stakes of last year’s gathering, when Nukuatu won in a field of 24 runners, a number that has only once or twice been beaten, even on the metropolitan courses ot the Dominion.
Among the leading jockeys that will be present at the first day of the local club’s meeting are : B. Deeley, F. D, Jones, S. Reid, M. M’Donald and W. Price. Deeley is to ride Ruapara, Jones will be on Bally Shannon and Papamara-mara,-and Reid on Operation and Seaweed. They will motor through from Wellington returning the same evening to be in time for the opening of the Wellington Cup meeting on Wednesday.
