FOXTON RACING CLUB’S ANNUAL MEETING.
Everything is now well forward ani excitement is beginning to run high in anticipation of the above meeting, which takes place on the club’s well-kept course on Tuesday and Wednesday next. This year the club should be wellrewarded for last year’s expenditure in providing more comfortable appointments for patrons. The club’s energetic secretary, Mr W. Gray, has left no stone unturned to ensure a successful gathering, and we hope that he will be wellrewarded for the time and labour he has put forward for the welfare of the club. Not only has the club spent a large sum in improving their course, which no doubt will be greatly appreciated by the public, but it has also made arrangements with the railway department to run a special train from Wanganui, which will leave at 6 a.m., arriving at Palmerston in ample lime to connect with the Foxtou special and will return the same night. The running of this train is an expensive experiment, and the club deserves praise for their enterprise. The train will be a great benefit to racing patrons outside the district, and we hope that it will prove a profitable one. During the day the Foxton Borough Baud, under the conductorship of Mr J. Golder, will enliven proceedings with selections. The course is in the pink of condition, the general opinion being that it is looking better now than it has looked for a number of years, which is a very high compliment to the caretaker, but a slight'downpour before the meeting would do it the world of good. As the Foxtou meeting is very popular throughout New Zealand and should the club be favoured with fine weather, there should be a record gathering.
