HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
Mr Alex Speirs (president) presided over a well-attended committee meeting of the local Horticultural Society last evening. Correspondence of a formal nature was read and received. The following judges were appointed for the Autumu Show to be held on the sth of March, subject to their acceptance: Vegetables and farm produce, Mr Mayo (Palmerston) ; pot plants, cut blooms and fruit, Mr Weightman (Palmerston) ; dairy produce, cookery and home industries, Mrs Davis (Rongotea) ; decorative, Mrs Weightman or Miss Murray (Wellington). Stewards were appointed as follows :—Pot plants, Miss Speirs ; cut blooms, Mrs Adams, Misses Ross and Signal; fruit, Mr Newth ; vegetables, Messrs Jas. Whyte and F. Wood ; dairy produce, cookery and home icdustries, Mrs Kempster and Miss Neylou ; decorative, Hiss Symons ; photography, Mr Hornblow. Mr Newth brought up the question of the appointment of a supervising steward, whose duties would be to give necessary information to exhibitors and generally supervise, and Mr Witchell was unanimously appointed. It was decided to engage the services oi an assistant to be at the disposal of stewards. Messrs Newth, Kempster and Henderson were appointed door stewards. Mrs A. M. Nye was appointed to preside over the sweets stall and Mrs Woods the tea-room. Dr. Adams was appointed to arrange for a programme of entertaining items for the evening of the show. The secretary was instructed to procure suitable prize receipt forms which he recommended to the meeting. Other formal matters were dis-' cussed and the meeting rose.
