THE FORTHCOMING
MEETING
Everything is now well in hand for the approaching meeting of the local racing club. The secretary, Mr W. Gray, has been untiring in his efforts to ensure a record gathering, and the club has spent a considerable amount in improving their course and patrons of racing will notice a great difference this year. The course has also received a great deal of attention and at present is in grand condition, which, reflects great credit on the caretaker. The Foxton meeting is recognised as one of the best conducted in the North Island, and given fine weather this year the meeting should be a record one from every .point of view. NOTES. Some of New Zealand’s best jockey will be present at the first day of the local meeting. A number of local “sports” may be seen wending their way to the track at an early hour every morning to witness the early gallops. The Captain Webb gelding Kauroa, who showed winning form at Martou, was entered for both Foxton and Trentham meetings, but it has been decided to run him at the latter gathering where he has an engagement in the Anniversary Welter.
The acceptances for the first day of the local meeting are really excellent, the scratching pen having been very sparingly used. It appears as though large fields will face the starter in nearly every event. As the Cup is run a day before the W.R.C. meeting opens, quite a uumber of Wellington sporting folk would make the trip if there were reasonable facilities for getting home again the same evening.
