INQUEST.
An inquest touching the death of James Alfred Smith, the fourron tbs-"Id son "f James Allred ' uith, cf Oroua Downs, was held I'C-fore Mr A. Fr*> District Coroner, on Tur day, vb r ;ii tb following evidence was taken ; —■ Alice Dinah Smith, luoiher the child, said that she last saw it alive at about n o’clock ou Monday night. It was then quite well and she gave it a bottle of food. She next saw it at about eight o’clock the following morning when it was lying in a strange position and its face was blue. She picked it up and found it was dead. Her father immediately telephoned for the doctor, who, upon arrival pronounced life extinct. The child was lying between her and the wall.
James Alfred Smith, the child’s lather, stated that he saw the child alive at about midnight on Monday, when it seemed quite Well. He gave it a drink and it seemed contented and went to sleep. When witness saw it nsxt morning it was lying face downwards and was quite still. Dr. Mandl gave evidence as to examining the child and stated that death was due to Suffocation. The Coroner returned a verdict that the deceased came to its death by suffocation through lying on its face.
