BREACH OF FLAXMILLERS’ AWARD.

At the Magistrate’s Court yesterday W. J. Culver, Inspector of Awards, claimed the sum of ,£lO from Nimmo and Gibbs, flaxmillers, in respect of a breach of the agreement made in May last, whereby all flax was to be weighed at the tram head and weights and weighing to be available to cutters or their representatives. The plaintiff claimed that during the period from August xst, 1912, to October 9th, 1912, the defendants had tailed to carry out the requirements ol the agreement.

Mr Culver said that as this was the first case of its kind under the new agreement, he would not ask for a substantial penalty. The defendants did not appear but put in a letter admitting the breach. They stated that they had been unable to procure a weighbridge suitable for the purpose in New Zealand and had to send to America for same. As this did not arrive as soon as was desired a weighbridge was purchased from another miller, at a considerable cost and installed. The usual practice in connection with the weighing of flax in force previous to the new agreement being come to had been followed, until the new weighbridge, which had since been installed, arrived. The Magistrate gave judgment for £2.
