MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting of the above was held at Sandon on Tuesday. Present: Crs. J. G, Wilson (chairman), R. B. McKenzie, H. H. Hunt, B. Gray, W. Barber, and W. J. Phillips.

The following letters were received ;

From Treasury, forwarding ,£lO 12s 6d, paid-ons on tramway, and approving loan of £6OO for metalling Bainesse road. From Mr E. Newman, M.P., forwarding letter from the Minister of Finance, explaining the difficulty of granting further loans.

From Mr K rtion, M.P., promising to carefully consider application for grant for Pyke’s road, when Public Works estimates were being compiled. From Ross and Son, Foxton, offering to form Burr’s road if the use of the road grader is granted. From Mr O. F. Cook, applying for transfer of slaughtering license, From Mr George A. Barber, asking that a culvert on the Kari Kari road be lowered. —To be attended to.

Mr A. K. Drew, County Treasurer, reported : Bank balances ; General account, debit, is 6d ; loan account, credit, ,£4OB xos. The following amounts are available for expenditure up to March 31, 1913: Sandon riding, ,£49; Mount Stewart, ,£72 ; Waitohi, j£io4; Rongotea, ,£324; Carnarvon, .£331 ; Kawakawa, ,£B9 ; Awahou, £195; Whirokino, The Tramway Manager reported that the credit balance for the month ot September was /21 19s 2d. The chief items of traffic were; Minerals tons, merchandise tons, manures 64 tons, metal 320 yards, timber 17,400 ft., fares £5 6s 4d. Extra charges were recommended for the delivery of metal. The manager also recommended that an extra shed be built at the northern end of the goods shed as a shelter for the engines. After some discussion the Council decided to join the Employers’ Association. The Council was informed that the rates paid since last meeting totalled £2IOO.
