COUNCIL COMMITTEES.
At last nigh T Council meeting, Cr Richmond moved, in accordance with notice given previously, that no Committee of the Council shall consist of more than four members. The mover said since he had been in the Council - nly one committee report had been submitted. It appeared to him that the members of the committees were not attending to their duties, and instead were putting the work on to the Town Clerk. He was of opinion that councillors should pay more attention to their committee work.
Cr Whibley seconded the motion
Cr Coley was opposed to reducing the number of committeemen. He considered that if anything the number of members of committees should be increased, as in the past there had at times been a difficulty in getting a sufficient number to turn up to meetings. Cr Stewart agreed with Cr Coley, saying that it was necessary to have a majority on the committees in order to obviate the possibility ol their report being set at naught when submitted to the Council. Cr Hannah supported the motiou. Cr Spelrs said while he agreed with the principle of the motion — that no committee should consist of a majority of the Council —yet at the same time he did not favour limiting the number to four. Further, he thought the right time to bring the matter forward would be at the time the committees are appointed. The motiou on being „.... "as lost, the voting being; For.Crs Richmond, Whibley and Hannah ■ against: The Mayor and Cr 3 Coley, Spcbs, Stewart am Chrystall.
