THE HEMP INDUSTRY.
HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT.
The High Commissioner cabled at noon yesterday as follows : The hemp market is firm, but little doing. Spot good fair £27 ss, fair £26; Manila, £26 10s. Forward shipments ; good fair £27 10s, fair £26 10s ; Manila, £27. The output of Manila for the week was 34,000 bales.
The above prices are au advance ou those cabled last week of from five to ten shillings in the case of good fair, and £1 for fair. Manila remains about the same. An advanced price is quoted for forward shipment, which is a very good sign, and undoubtedly indicates that prices have not yet reached top. Next week’s cable will be awaited with interest by locai millers, as the price quoted then will be the basis ot the charge tor royalty for the month of (September.
