FOXTON-SANSON TRAMWAY EXTENSION.
A deputation consisting of Mr R. K. Simpson, chairman or the Rangitikei County Council, and the representatives of a conference of local bodies interested, waited on the Minister of Railways (Hon. W. H. Herries) in Wellington on Tuesday, to ask leave for the local bodies to connect the 1 Sandon tramway with the Government railway at Marton. The Government, said Mr E- Newman, M.P., had refused to do the work, and therciore the local bodies asked permission to do it themselves. The deputation urged that the interests of Foxlou and the whole of the settlers would benefit by such a proposal and that the railway revenue would not suffer. In 1910 the Petitions Committee ot the House had referred a petition on the subject to the Government tor favourable consideration, The length of the connection proposed is five miles, and the ratepayers are quite prepared to raise a loan for its construction.
The Minister, in reply, said he would have fresh reports made by the department on the subject, and endeavour to visit the locality before giving an answer to the request.
