THE OTAKI SEAT.

At a social function held at Otaki the other evening, Mr Field referred to his retirement from public life, regretting that such a step was necessary, especially as his ambition was to get a seat in the Ministry, which reward he looked forward to. He found it hard to stand aside for a man who was practically a stranger to the district, and whose policy was not acceptable to the great majority of t'aimers. He wished to make it clear that his ambition was to regain the seat, and he would, thereiore, stand again as soon as an election was necessary- He had no bitterness in his mind over the last election, and he was pleased to have friends who were politically opposed to him.
