BOWLING.
The curtain was rung down on bowling in Foxtou this season yesterday afternoon, when a challenging team for the Toms Ferns, skipped by Rimmer succeeded in wresting the trophies from the holders. The game was very interesting and at the 20th head, the scores were equal. In the last head however, the challengers were at their best and when the last bowl was delivered, they were laying no less than seven. From the commencement of the game the challengers forged ahead and at one stage held a lead of 16 to 4. From this on to the twentieth head the holders played well and succeeded in equalling their opponents score. The last head, however, told the tale and the coveted Ferns were transferred to their new holders who will remain in undisputed possession until the beginning ot next season. The following are the rinks and scores: — Challengers Holders Spring Whibley Stiles Barber Walker Woods Rimmer (s) 24 Clemett (s) 17 The local green is now to be closed until the beginning of next season. All other greens have been shut down tor some time past, but the Foxton green, on account of us dryness and the attention paid to it by the caretaker, Mr Spring, has been lit to play on right up to the present time.
