TRAM EXTENSION.

MEETING AT MARTON,

A meeting of delegates from the various local bodies interested was held at Marton yesterday for the purpose of discussing what steps should be taken in connection with the proposal to extend the Sanson tramway from Pukeuui to Marton. The following delegates were present: MesssrsJ. G. Wilson, R, B. McKenzie (Manawatu County Council), R. K. Simpson (Rangitikei County Council), Brice, C. B. Collins (Marton Chamber of Commerce), R. E. Beckett, Wylde (Marton Borough Council), P. j. Heunessy (Foxton Harbour Board), G. H. Stiles, A. J. Gibbs (Foxton Borough Council), D. Coughlin (Bulls Town Board) and Edward Newman, M.P. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs John Robertson M.P., and Donald Fraser (Raugitikei County Council). Mr J. G. Wilson was voted to the chair.

It was explained that the meeting was convened on the sugges tion of Mr Newman, M.P., who advised that the question of the construction of light railways .would probably come before Cabinet at an early date and the time was therefore opportune to renew the agitation tor this extension.

After a short discussion it was unanimously decided on the motion of Mr Beckett, that in the opinion of this meeting the time has arrived when the Mi lister for Railways, the Hi u. a. M, Myers, should be approached for permission to extend the Sanson tramway from Pukenui to Martou. The arranging of a small deputation to wait on the Hon. Mr Myers at an early date was left to the Manawatu and Rangitikei County Councils. A turther resolution urging upon the Government the necessity ol constructing branch lines as feeders for the main lines, or ol allowing local bodies interested to do so, with provision that same could be taken over by the Government when so desired, was also passed.

Votes of thanks to the chair and to those delegates who had attended from a distance was passed and the meeting terminated.
