TOWN CLERK’S REPORT.

At last night’s Council meeting the Town Clerk’s report was read and adopted and is as follows : “Most of the borough drains are now cleaned out, those still to be done are Howan street and No. 6 Line. Some of the concrete pipes for Norbiton road crossing by the Council last year) have now arrived and are being placed in position, and when the work is completed there should be no more complaints ot flooded laud in Norbiton road. The roadmen have also repaired some holes in road by Racecourse, Main street, Russell street, Johnston street and Norbiton road. The triangle has been kept weeded, mown and planted, and the water channels ot Main street cleaned out. In the estimate of receipts and expenditure to be submitted to you tonight, you will note that the general rate remains the same as last year, as the expenditure could not be met with less, but the total of general and special rales this year will be lower by a haltpeuny than they were last year being 4b and 7-x6ths, as against 4d and i5-i6ths. This nas been made possible by the accumulation ol some of the interest accounts, this enabling the collection of a lower rate fur this year. The Rink continues to be well patronised, the total receipts to date being £go ys 4d including sale of skates, while the expenditure is ,£ll9 19s rod, thus leaving a debit balance of los 6d against which must be placed 58 pairs ot skates. The Pictures still attract good audiences. The debit balance in Treasurer’s report in the Town Hall Account is caused by the payment of r rSs 5d to the Hall Capital Account, the principal items being : Gas fitting £&? and Kirkland, balance of contract, £ll7. I propose as soon as the men can get away from the drains to put in the cesspit at Caretaker’s cottage at hall, and to get the road grader over the roads belors putting metal on same.”
