LOCAL GOVERNMENT BILL.

The meeting of representatives of the various local bodies throughout the district to appoint delegates to the conference iu reference to the Local Government Bill, at Wellington, was held r'; Palmeisiou North on Thursday,

The following representatives were present;—K. J. Armstrong (Oiou?. Drainage Board), C. Collis (Aorangi Drainage Board), P. Henuessy (Foxtou Harbour Board), A. Perkiss (Halcombe Town Board), j. A. Nash and F. Mowlem (Palmerston Borough Council), J. Vincent and W. G. Pearce (Oroua County Council), C. Voss and R. Bryant (Kairauga County Council), Bruce (Kiwitea), A. Best and W. Rutherfurd (Mauawatu Drainage Board), D. Howie and J. Jones (Pohaugiua County Council); J. G. Wilson (Manawatu County Council), G. Kendall (Hospital Board), B. Gower (Moutoa Drainage Board), A. J. Gibbs (Foxtou Borough Council). Mr Plarford proposed that Messrs J. G. Wilson and J. A. Nash be appointed delegates.

Mr Wilson slated that he was of the opinion that the Bill was a retrograde movement, aud he was very much opposed to it as it stood. It they elected him be would take that view at the conference.

Mr Pearce stated he had been astonished to see how many small road boards there were, some of whose revenue only amounted to per annum. Mr Nash slated that as far as he was concerned he was not going down to support the Bill as it stood.

Mr Wilson stated that he thought there should be a third representative, but he would have no voting power.

Mr Collis suggested that as there vvas no objection to a third mau Mr Rutherford should also attend.

Mr Harford pointed out that Mr Nash would not only represent the Borough ot Palmerston but also of Feildiug aud Foxtou. The motion iu favour ot appointing Messrs J. G. Wilson aud J. A. Nash delegates aud ot Mr W. Rutherfurd accompanying the delegates was earned. The proceedings then terminated.
