SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The postponed ordinary meeting of the school committee was held on Thursday night. Present: —Messrs Hornblow (chairman), Betty, Hunt, Hussey, Henderson and Read. Mr Henderson stated that he had not been able to obtain any definite information re conveying Maori children across the river in order to attend school. It was decided not to take any further action re same until further information was forthcoming.

The balance-sheet iu connection with the recent school excursion and picnic was read and adopted. Correspondence was received from tbe Board agreeing to pay half cost ot sanitation charge, and pointing out that the regulations under which committees are required to bear the expeuse of this work were instituted by the Government. Before these regulations came into force the whole cost was borne by the Board. — The Chairman was authorised to write thanking the Board for its assistance.

The headmaster's report stated that the attendance, while satisfactory, is somewhat affected by the prevalence of mumps.
