FOXTON WATERSIDE WORKERS.

THE NEW AGREEMENT

The conference of representatives of the employers and of the Foxtou Waterside Workers and General Labourers’ Union, ended iu an amicable agreement being come to on all points, insofar as they referred to the Waterside Workers.

The rate of pay for the Waterside Workers was agreed upon as under: —

For working general cargo, rate of pay to be increased from is 3d to is 6d per hour, ordinary time ; and from 2s to 2s 2d per hour lor overtime up to 10 p.m., after that lime 2s 3d per hour. Coal : Rate of pay to be is Bcl ner hout Instead of is 6d for ordinary time ; 2s od per hour to be paid for overtime up to 10 p.m., and 2s yd per hour afterwards. Saturday afternoons to be observed as holidays, and if work is done on these afternoons overtime rates are to be paid. Double ordinary time, 3s qd per hour for coal and 3s lor ordinary cargo, to be paid lor work done during meal hours, and this rate is also to be paid if the men are required to commence work at 12 o’clock 011 Sunday nights. If uightwatchmeu are employed they are to be paid at the rate of 10s per night, to be on duty from 6 p.m. to <) a.m. This new agreement is to come into force on the ist proximo, and will remain in operation until January 31st, iyiq, at which time the Dominion agtcement in connection with the Waterside Workers also expires. The employers’ representatives declined to discuss the Union’s claims in respect to men employed iu the dumping sheds and river service, but subsequently those interested in this connection arrived at a satisfactory agreement between themselves.

We congratulate the employers and employees iu settling their differences in such a harmonious and' mutually satisfactory manner, and we hope that industrial peace will long continue in our midst.
