HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
A well-attended committee meeting of the above was held in the Town Hall supper room last night, kr Speirs, President, occupied the chair. The receipts and expenditure in connection with the autumn show were submitted. It was disclosed that in common with other autumn shows throughout the province, owing to the bad season and wet show days, that a loss of odd bad been incurred. It was pointed out by the Chairman that the show in other respects was very successful. The question of finances was discussed at some length. It was stated that a number of members subscriptions for the current year were still outstanding, and it was decided to endeavour to collect these before the annual meeting, which takes place in May. It was decided to bring up the question of ladies privileges in connection with members’ tickets at the annual meeting, also curtailing expenses in connection with the catalogue. It was suggested that a canvass should be made for prizes locally and a Palmerston. The Chairman suggested that on show days the judges should be entertained at luncheon, and the occasion used for discussing exhibits and other points of interest to the society. This custom, he said, bad been adopted by other societies and was of great educational value. Votes of thanks were passed to the orchestra for providing a musical programme at the late show. Accounts were passed for payment and the meeting rose.
