BOWLING CLUB CARNIVAL.

The Bowling Club Carnival and sale ot work was brought to a close on Thursday night. The attendance was not so large as was anticipated. The goods offered for sale were of first-class quality, and compared more than favourably with those submitted at similar functions in large centres. The ladies committee spared neither expense or labour in this connection. In this connection the club’s thauks are especially due to Mrs Witchell who devoted many weeks of patient work in making up articles in plain and art needle work, tor which she has won an enviable reputation. The various stalls did good business, but a quantity of articles are left unsold and these will be disposed of at a later date. The thauks of the club are due to all who assisted, and to the borough baud and joint secretaries. The committee realised all that it set out to accomplish by the effort, viz., the cost of the pavilion, and will have a few pounds to spare together with the goods unsold. The gross takings were 10. The ladies bag competition, judged by Mrs J. L. Harvey, of Himataugi, was won by two Palmerston ladies, Miss Roby and Mrs Bennett.

The art union prizes were won by Mr E. Cotter (659), wardrobe ; Mrs Hunt (294), oil painting ; Mr T. Bowe (154), painting. Raffles were won by the following :—Hand-painted panel, Mr C. Kent; carved table, Mr P. Lumsdeu ; centre piece, Mrs LutQsden ; painted curtains, Mr Charles; hasssock, Mr Symouds ; picture, Mr G. Edwards; cushion, Mr liolliugtou, table, Mr Horublow ; carved stool, Mrs Green ; painting, Mr J. L. Harvey.
