PROPOSED SCHOOL AT MAROTIRI.
For some time past there has been a movement in favour ot a school at Marotire, (north end of Moutoa), to accommodate a number of children, who, it is claimed, are too far removed from the Mould, Foxtou and Oroua Bridge schuois. After considerable agitation, Mr Fraser, the Board’s member, met the residents and discussed the matter with them. On Thursday another meeting was held in Dr Walls’ Hall, when Chief Inspector Braik met the residents at the direction of the Board. Mr Braik, in his remarks, said he had come to Marotiri to go fairly into the matter and hear all reasons for and against the project. Mr A. Saunders fiepresenting the Moutoa School Committee,), Mr S. Rend (Foxton School Committee) and Mr J. G. Doyle (representing the Marotiri residents) expressed their views. A Idee and general discussion followed. The matter ot a brake to convey the children to the Moutoa or Foxton schools was first discussed, but by the majority of those present was considered unworkable in a district so scattered. Mr Braik explained why he did not favour a separate school, the trend at the present day being towards centralizing, and not building unnecessary small schools. However, in this case, he considered that a side school under the charge of the Moutoa school would best meet the case. This would be for children up to the VI. Standard. All children above the VI. would go to the Moutoa or Foxton schools, where they would also get better advantages. A motion in favour ot a side school, was, on a show of hands, carried. The usual votes of thanks closed the meeting.
