TOWN CLERK S REPORT.

The Town Clerk submitted the following report on the workings of the borough for the pasc mouth, at last night’s Borough Council meeting :

During the past month the daymen have finished cutting grass in the cemetery, which was sold to George K.eay for £2 —the same price as last year. The gutters of Main street have been cleaned out, the weeds and growth in Wharf street removed, and the footpath crossings in Main Street at Clyde, Whyte, and Wharf streets have had a second coating of tar. Thirty-seven yards of metal obtained from the Mauawatu County, and the holes in Sandon road filled in. The men were also employed in cutting a path for the caretaker below the stage in the Town Hall, cleaning up the Triangle, and working for gas works. The new lamp post in Johnston street, to face Coley street, has been fixed, and seems a good stamp of lamp post. The picture shows continue to be well patronised, and give universal satisfaction. The one in aid of the Palmerston North High School realised £3 6s. I propose to try the oxide of iron discarded by the gas works as a weed exterminator in Wharf street. The men will be employed during the next month in cleaning out all borough drains.
