MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting ot the Manawatu County Council was held on Monday. Present: —'Crs. J. G. Wilson (chairman), W. J. Phillips, J. Henson, H. H. Hunt, W. E. Barber, and R. B. McKenzie. COKKKSPONDENCU. From tne Treasury, lor warding payments on the tramway and the sum of £l9O, Coronation sub sidy, for the purpose of erecting a hall at Taikorea and a swimming bath at Glen Oroua.—Received. 9 From the New Zealand State Guaranteed Advances Office, stating that the Beach road loan had been remitted. —Received,
From E. R. B. Holben, expressing surprise on behalf of himself and other leaseholders at the Foxton Heads that the Council had decided to terminate the road at the Beach alongside ut Langley’s, and asking that it be continued as far as Clelaud’s store. —Estimate to be obtained of extra cost, and applicant recommended to apply to the Foxton Harbour Board and Foxton Borough Council for their consent to construction of the road.
From Tnos. Bowe, agreeing to pay £lO per acre for tne road reserve at’Moutoa, and agreeing to allow the Maoris to have access to the cemetery at any time. —Application granted, subject to applicant paying all expenses in connection therewith. From a number of settlers, asking permission to cut grass seed on the various County roads.— Eeft in the hands of the Councillors for the various ridings. From the Secretary of the Palmerston North Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, stating that it had been decided to call up a levy of 5d in the of capital value, for the purpose of erecting an Old People's trome, and asking for the Council’s contribution of
The following transfers were approved: —W. Bly to J. H. Herrison, part railway reserve, Carnarvon.
The Treasurer reported amounts available tor expenditure ; Kongotea Riding, ,£26 4s 6d; Kawa Kawa, 17s id ; Awahou, 9s id ; Whirokino division, is Bd. Amounts over-expended : Sandon Riding, 7s id; Mt. Stewart, ,£44 os 3d; Waitohi, £Tx is rod ; Carnarvon, £56 10s 3d. The manager of the tramway reported as under ; —The earnings exceeded expenditure by £69 15s 3d. The chief items of traffic were : Minerals, ton ; merchandise, tons; timber, 6,800 feet; wool, 802 bales; metal, 530 yards ; fares, £5 14s id. Both engines are m good order, and working satisfactorily. The Engineer reported as lollows:—Awahou Riding : The contractor for the Foxton Beach road is making better progress with tne work since the weather has improved, but it will be necessary to have more teams on the work to get it completed by tne specified time. The 24ft. concrete culvert over the Whakapuni drain will be completed in two days. As soon as the water subsides it will be necessary to deepen and clean out the drain.
