COURT BUSINESS.

QUARTERLY RETURNS, The Clerk of the Court, Mr F. Woods, has supplied us with the following returns of the business of the local Court for the quarter ended December 31st, 1911 : During the year eleven sittings of the Court were held, three beiug presided over by the Magistrate and eight by justices. CIVIL BUSINESS. The number of civil cases dealt with during the quarter was 46. The aggregate amount sued tor was 12s yd, and the amount recovered ,£l4O is 3d. Fortythree plaints were entered, 6 distress warrants issued, 8 judgment summonses issued, 2 orders made on judgment summonses, 45 summonses and other processes served within two miles, and 15 over two miles, and eight distress wairants within two miles, and six over two miles, were executed. One application was heard in Chambers. The amount of civil fees paid in stamps was £l3 2s. criminal. Twenty persons were taken into custody, summoned or apprehended, two cases of which were dismissed on the merits and 18 were summaxily convicted. Twelve were fined, two drders made and four convicted and discharged. The amount of criminal lees and tines paid in stamps was £7 6s. OLD AGE PENSIONS. During the quarter four old age pensions were granted.
