MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.
Al the last meeting of the above the overseer reported on the Awahou Riding as follows: —Mr Thomas Ward has surveyed the road diversion through section 20, Moun-a • slate, and the plan is before rue Council for their approval. It would be advisable to make a deviation in the proposed road through the Wharangi township, along the frontage of sections Nos. 19, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, and 39. If my suggestion is decided upon, arrangements could be made with the contractor to do the extra work. It is about three chains longer than the road decided on. The alteration provides a better approach to the Beach, being free from drift timber and on an easy grade with the road.
The receipts ou the tramway for the mouth to October 27, were £ 170, and the expenditure £273 (including labour £7O, Stewart Bros. £4O, and Bowater (6 months) £27). A good tank is being erected at Whale Line. Mr Hickford reported : The whole of the plate-laying has been completed with the exception of the ten tons ot rails that are to be put down near Sanson to replace the damaged 40U) rails at this end. The four bridges between Sanson and Rongotea Siding have been overhauled and put in order. We have also lengthened the siding at Taikorea, The linemen are now putting down the best of the 261 b rails to replace damaged rails between Whale siding aud Himatangi. It would be advisable to erect a watering trough at the windmill pump at the Whale siding to catch the overflow from the tank. I have appointed W. Birchall ganger of the Sandon section of the tramline. The tender of C. Martin for the road to Foxton Beach totals nearly ,£2,500, the amount of the loan.
The letter oi the Horowheuua County Council re election of members of Hospital Boards was endorsed.
Mr Saunders’ request was agreed to.
Cr Barber aud Mr Hickford were appointed to carry out Mr Carroll’s request. The proposals iu the overseer’s report were adopted. The purchase of another railway carriage and waggous from the Government is practically decided on.
Cr Barber spoke in terms of praise of the action ot Messrs Speirs aud Greig in providing a horse trough and pipes on the Moutoa road, aud of Dr Wall’s liberality in allowing the pipes to be connected with his artesian water supply.
