THE HEMP INDUSTRY
SEPTEMBER GRADING RETURNS.
During the month of September, the total number of bales ot hemp graded was 6,510, as compared with 6,174 for the corresponding month ot last year, an increase of 236 bales. For the twelve mouths ending 30th September the number graded was 98,327, as compared with 126,416 lor the previous twelve months, a decrease of 28,089 bales. The tow dealt with was 1549 bales, as against 1627 bales tor the corresponding month of last year. The number of bales of each grade dealt with at the different ports was as under :
Iu addition to the above, oue bale at Foxtou and 74 bales at Wellington were rejected.
Three bales of tow were condemned at Wellington.
