Dr. Chesson, Wellington District Health Officer, accompanied by Mr O’Brien, sub-officer, visited Foxton to-day, and inspected a number of premises. The Registrar of Electors for Otaki asks us to inform the public that he finds it impossible to make requested alterations on the present roll, as it has been in the hands ot the printer since the 14th instant, but the alterations will be made early next year. At the Carnival to-morrow and Saturday nights, prizes will be given to the holders of the lucky admission ticket each evening. Before the Bishop of Wellington gave his address last evening in All Saints' Church, he said that he was a stranger here, but was very much touched, when he heard of the sad and heart-rending accident at the Foxtou Heads last Sunday. Such things could not be explained : but he would commend the families in this their darkest hour to the love of an All loving Father who was able even in this great darkness to give them light. Into His most gracious keeping he would commend them The Mauakau correspondent of the Otaki Mail says that the only jarring note struck at Mr Mouckton’s meeting held there on Tuesday night was when Mr F. Hall asked whether Mr Brown had yet paid the money into court in re the case Mouckton v. Brown. The candidate answered: No; Mr Brown has not paid. This question, not a political one, had better not have been asked, as it sounded like the beginning of “ personalities,” which, so far, have, by all candidates, been carefully eschewed. Mr J. Harley, Registrar of Electors, wishes to notify canvassers that they are liable to a penalty of or three mouths if they fail to forward claims in time. Several complaints have been made to him ot claims not being acknowledged and he received claims only on Saturday last bearing dates from the 4th to the 14th instant, which, if received in time, would have appeared on the main roll. Others have not yet been received and he has had to forward forms.
