Seven classes of reserves have been called out, and preparations are being made to call out nine further classes.

The steamer Castle of Grath has arrived from Tripoli with 1,200 refugees. They had been huddled on the deck for three days in a continuous storm of rain, and had been suffering terrible sickness.

Owing to being without cargo, the steamer pitched horribly, and the refugees were repeatedly thrown on the decks. Seven are raving mad as the result of their experiences, and the minds of others are unhinged. The majority are penniless. Many fell on their knees imploring the aid of the journalists and officials who boarded the Castle of Grath, and clamoured for food and water, holding up emaciated children.

SIXTY THOUSAND ARABS WITH MAUSERS.

The Malta correspondent of the Daily Chronicle reports that 60,000 Arabs, armed with Mauser rifles, are stationed 50 miles inland from Tripoli, where they have a natural stronghold. Rome, Oct. 3.

The Tribuna says the transport Derna, which was said to have been permitted by the Italian fleet to pass, was shelled and sunk. It is reported that Italy is willing to pay Turkey 60,000,000 francs tor the cession of Tripoli, similar to Austria’s payment lor Bosnia-Hertzegovina in 1908.
