ATTEMPT TO BUY THE MINERS’ VOTES.

Auckland, October 2

At a special meeting of the Waihi Miners’ Union on Saturday evening a communication was received to the effect that, in the event of restoration of licenses being carried in Ohinemuri at the forthcoming local option poll, the retail profits derived from the sale of liquors in the local hotels would be devoted to the union Considerable discussion followed, and finally it was resolved unanimously, “ That the union take no action in the matter.”

It must be pointed out (in face of published rumours to the contrary) that the Waihi union never made any proposal in the matter nor did it discuss the question till Saturday evening last.
