From Railway Engineer, offering to construct crossing on Foxton Eiue for £ 6. —Agreed to.

From State Advances Department, stating that ,£1250 loan for Foxton Beach road had been passed. From Mr E. Newman, M.P., stating that he had endeavoured to get a reduction in the charge for freight for second-hand rails.

Kawa Kawa and Awahou Ridings.—l let several contracts to I, D. S. Cooksley for widening, soiling, and fascining on the Pal-merston-Foxtou road, amounting U P to ,£sl 15s, most of which have been completed.

Kawa Kawa and Carnarvon Ridings. —The whole of the metal required for the Foxton road between these rwo ridings has now been put on the road. Awahou Riding.—Mr W. J. Gifkins has completed his contract for grading, soiling, and fascine work on White’s road. To make extra room for the contractor’s teams along the railway to get at the metal, it would be advisable to obtain permission from the Railway Department to set back the fence about 50 links along the line near the Ladies’ Mile, where we are going to stack the metal for the Foxton Beach road.

Tramway.—lt will be necessary to lengthen one of the sidings either at the Taikorea or the Whale Siding, to allow the ballast tram to pass when taking the metal down for the Foxtou Beach road. We have not made such good progress with the plate-laying this month as we anticipated, as several of the men were away from work at different times, and most of the time during the last mouth was put in along the line packing that which was laid the previous month. Three of the bridges reported on by the Inspector have been strengthened and put in order. Mr R. B. Sutton has completed the building of the dwelling house at the Rongotea siding satisfactorily. The fence has also been erected around the house, and everything is ready for the tenant. TRAM manager’s REPORT. Mr A. K. Drew reported that the debit balance for the month was 15s nd, which included 3s 8d for sleepers and freight, velocipede, relaying (wages), and repairs to engine. The chief items of traffic were : Grain, 41)4 tons ; minerals, 52)4 tons ; manure, 43 tons ; merchandise, tons; timber, 20,200 feet; metal, 315 yards; lares amounted to 9s 7d, being ,£lO 13s id less than the corresponding month last year. The difference represents fares collected in connection with special runs for the Bulls races. Messrs Stewart Bros, have just about completed the two locomotives. The alterations to the Manawatu have proved highly satisfactory, and a big saving in coal will be made. The old jigger should be thoroughly overhauled and repaired for the lineman at this end of the line. A number of the old 401 b rails between Sanson’s and Penny’s sidings are going strong, and it has been thought advisable to purchase another 10 tons of 401 b steel rails from the Government, and replace a section, using the good ones that come out for repairing. It has also been thought advisable to order two sets of points and crossings for Rosina siding.

BUSINESS DONE. The clerk was instructed to obtain information in reference to licensing motor cars. Ratepayers allowing gorse to grow on the roads opposite their properties u* the Manavvatu County be notified, through the Inspector of Noxious Weeds, to have the same cleared at once.
