FATAL ACCIDENT.

Carterton, March 17

W ord was received at Carterton this morning of the violent death of Mr Hugh Mitchell. Mr F. J. Reid, late of Martinborough, was driving a load of furniture to his property at Laudseud, and Mitchell rode with him. Ascending a small hill at Gladstone School the harness broke, and the jerk caused Mr Mitchell to fall, the wheels passing over his chest. His ribs were crushed and his lungs pierced. An ambulance and doctor were summoned from Mastertou and Carterton, but before medical aid arrived Mr Mitchell passed away. He was aged between 45 aud 50, and had been a great lootballer and athlete aud was very popular.
