The match between Foxton and Himatangi, played on the Hiraatangi ground yesterday afternoon, resulted in a win for the home team by 89 runs on the first innings,

Himatangi batted first, Redgrave an 1 Ciilhncss opening to the bowling of Howe and York. Off the first over three runs and a bye were scored, but Caithness was clean bowled by York with his first ball, and two balls later, without any further addition to the score, the new-comer, Bethune, was caught by Howe. Raikes was next, but fell a victim to the first ball in York’s second over. York, at this stage was bowling splendidly, and his record was three wickets for no runs. The fourth wicket fell at nine, the fifth at ten, and the sixth at seventeen. Foxton’s prospects looked rosy, but Redgrave was joined by Death, and these two players put an entirely different aspect on the game. Despite repeated changes in the bowling, they were not disposed of until the score was brought up to 145. The Himataugi skipper then decided to close the innings, eight wickets only being down.

Foxtou commenced their innings very late in the day, and before the last wicket fell the light was such that play should have ceased, and the game declared a draw. Foxtou’s total only reached 56, of which Robinson scored n and Cliugberg 10. Redgrave bowled well, capturing eight wickets at a cost of 26 runs. The following are the scores : HIMATANGI.
