ROWING CLUB’S AQUATIC PICNIC.

A very successful social function, in the form of an acquatic picnic, was held on the river yesterday afternoon, under the auspices of the local Rowing Club. The weather and river conditions were perfect for the outing. The picnicers were conveyed down the river to Hartley’s Bend in a launch, four pleasure boats and an outrigger. A little delay was caused in landing those aboard the launch by reason of a temporary mishap to the machinery. The tide did not permit the party effecting a lauding lower down as was previously intended. Tea was served out on landing by the male members of the party and was much appreciated. After refreshments a nice spot was selected where games of all descriptions were indulged in, and which kept the party in a state of jollification until about 5.30, when every one trekked back to the boats thoroughly satisfied with the outing. A pleasant run home was experienced. The band provided numerous selections en route, interspersed with vocal items and choruses. On arrival at the boatshed the committee appeared too tired to indulge in flights of oratory —the Secretary after his arduous duties was discovered comfortably ensconsed m a corner of the boat in the arms of—Morpheus! All present, however, thoroughly enjoyed the club’s pleasant outing, and look forward to a “ditto repeato ” with pleasureable anticipations. The club desire to extend their sincere thanks to the borough baud for their services.

The club’s new pleasure boat arrived at Palmerston mid-day yesterday, but owing to there being no mid-day train it did not arrive in time for the picnic. It arrived to-day.
