CHRISTCHURCH SENSATION.
A MYSTKRIOUS AFFAIR. CuKisTcm’Kcii, Feb. y. The body of a woman found in a right-of-way at Christchurch on Wednesday last, has been identified as that of Mist Fithel Bradley, 34 years of age. She was in a pregnant state. Miss Bradley had been employed as a housekeeper. CuuisTCUL’Kcn, Feb. 10. The inquest concerning the death of Fithel Bradley, the victim of the Cashel Street tragedy, opened to-day. The Coroner said the surgeon who made the post mortem examination believed the deceased met her death by poison. Kvidcnce given by a brother and sisters of deceased was to the effect that deceased was liable to fits of depression, but they knew ot no reason why she should take her own life. She was keeping company with a tobacconist’s assistant, and spoke of early marriage. G. T. Weston, solicitor, who employed deceased as housekeeper, said she was not qualified lor the work, and an opportunity was given her of resigning. On February Ist she had resigned by letter, which contained the phrase “ I am unhappy.” Harry Alexander Jack, hairdresser, who had been indicated as keeping compauy with deceased, was called. He said he had not seeu the girl since the previous Friday. He did not know she was pregnant. Ou Tuesday night he weut to his employer’s shop at eleven and remained till two. He had had drinks, but denied having seeu deceased on Tuesday night. He declared he had never spoken lo her of marriage. Medical evidence was given to the effect that death was the result of poisoning. After hearing the evidence of the constable who discovered the body the inquest was adjourned ou the application of the police until next Friday.
