WANGANUI HARBOUR BOARD

AT LOGGERHEADS WITH THE RAILWAY DEPARTMENT. Wanganui, February 9. At a special meeting of the Harbour Board last evening, further consideration was given to the Railway Department's imposition of an extra 2d per ton handling charge on all goods landed on the town wharf which the Department work under agreement with the board, this matter has been under review some time, and neither parry to the dispute has shown a disposition to give way. Seeing that the board has to pay the charge in the long run by way of refund to the Department, members have been determined in opposition, and last night the opinion was expressed by several that the agreement should be terminated and the working of the wharf taken out of the Department's hands. Finally, a motion was passed refusing to pay the extra charge.
