A SEA-BORNE MESSAGE.

AND A REPLY. It will be remembered by our readers that about a month ago we published a message found in a bottle on the Beach at the north side of the river entrance. The message contained “best wishes from engineers’ staff aboard the s.s. Brisbane,” and the finder was asked to communicate with No, 21, Railway Place, Williamstown, Victoria. The bottle was picked up by Master Bob Hornblow, and the writer communicated with. By last night’s mail a reply was received and headed “ s.s. Sydney, Melbourne, 27/9/10.” The writer, Mr Herbert Evans, says: 11 Thanks very much for answering my note. Excuse me for not signing my name to it, as the other engineers were present while I was sealing it up. so we said we would sign it as ‘ Engineers.’ This is the second bottle 1 sent on a voyage from N.Z, waters, and both arrived safely ashore; the first one was drifting about for nine mouths, and arrived at the Chatham Islands. The s.s. Ripple brought it back to Lyttelton. It was reported in Christchurch and other papers. lam a great believer in these messages being sent, as proof of the currents in shore waters.” Mr Evans sends kindly greetings to the finder, and asks for copies of the paper containing references to the subject.
