SHANNON DAIRY COMPANY.
The annual general meeting of shareholders of the Shannon Cooperative Dairy Company, Ltd,, was held in the Druids Hall, Shannon, yesterday, Mr E. Law, chairman of directors, occupied the chair, nnd there was a fair number of shareholders present. The annual report congratulated shareholders on the success of the year’s operations, and the directors stated the coming year promises to be even more successful, as arrangements have been made for the consigning of the output to April 30, 19x1, on an advance without recourse, which will allow of payments to suppliers far in advance of last year. The amount of butterfat supplied during the year was for which ,£14,271 14s 8d was paid. The quantity of butter manufactured was 170 tons. The balance of the profit and loss account shows the substantial sum of ,£1165 13s Bd, and the payment of a dividend of six per cent, is recommended,—The report and balance sheet was adopted. The payment of the dividend recommended by the directors was approved, and the directors were voted a bonus of ,£69. The secretary was also voted a bonus of ,£2O in recogition of his good work. Messrs E. Law and G. O. Barber, the retiring directors, were re-elected unopposed. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded the employees for the faithful manner in which they carried out their duties, special mention being made of the splendid work of the manager. The meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to the chair.

It is somewhat of a co-incidence that the winner of the steeplechase at Avondale on Saturday was named “Antartic,” and that the rider’s name was “ Scott.” A sporting reporter quite innocently described it as “ a nice race,” At the inquest on the body of Mrs Elizabeth Martin, whose body was found on the rocks at Lyall Bay, Wellington, on Monday, the evidence showed that death was due to drowning. Deceased’s husband is in England. She had been depressed for some time, but was not in financial difficulties, as a local firm of solicitors had ,£IOOO in keeping lor her.
