FOOTBALL.

The following team will represent the Thirds at Palmerston on Saturday : —Weller, Robie, Howe, Edlin, O’Reilly, Neville, Rangi, Spring, Robertson, Campball, Toki, Nelson, Burnett, C. and H. Robinson, Eraser, McDonnell .

The Wanganui Herald heaves the following brick at the Wellington football representatives, who recently visited Wanganui and soundly drubbed its representatives: —‘‘Many years ago football teams when away from home used to indulge in an excess of animal spirits which earned them a rather unenviable notoriety. Of late years, however, there has been a distinct striving alter a more sober demeanour, and a recognition of the fact that quiet behaviour in the streets is regarded as gentlemanly. The Wellington representative team on its way to its train to-day paraded down the Avenue singing lustily a classical ditty of the music halls. To themselves it no doubt appeared a very clever performance, but they have evidently not caught the spirit of the times.” Now, did Wanganui’s defeat inspire the scribe to write the above ?

The Awahou Club has appealed to the Manawatu Union against the decision of the local sub-union in dismissing their protest ou the last Awahou-Albion match, and the matter will come before that body on Monday evening next.

Football matches for dinners are very popular with local followers of rugby —particularly with the side that wins and gets the dinner for nothing. The natives from Motuiti and Himatangi are shortly issuing a challenge to a local team to play a match, when the reward tor the members of the Iqsing side will be the pleasure of paying for their more fortunate opponents’ dinner.

The Albion Club has been most successful in the local competitions this season, having won the three grades —senior, junior and third class. In the senior competition they did not have their line crossed, the only score registered against them being a goal from a penalty. Arrangements hare been made to have photographs of each team taken, and all players in each class are requested to roll up at the appointed time.

An endeavour is being made to arrange two matches —oue each at Fox ton and Levin—between the Albion senior team and one of the Horowhenua Union’s senior teams.
