CATHOLIC SOCIAL
The Catholic euchre party and dance, held in the Public Hall last night, was a pronounced success. The attendance was very good, and of the twenty-four euchre tables provided all were occupied, this number proving inadequate to the demand. All games were contested with a keenness and zest typical of progressive euchre, and continued from 8 o’clock until 10. The prize winners were Miss K. Bowe and Mr Frank Davis the first prizes respectively, and Miss Codliu and Mr George Dunn the “booby” prizes. Supper was handed round previous to the dancers occupying the floor, and was done full justice to. Dancing was entered into enthusiastically by about fifty couples, to spirited music supplied by Miss K. Spelmau. The floor was well prepared for the light fantastic, and dancing continued merrily until the small hours of this morning. Vocal items were ably rendered during the evening by Messrs Preston and C. Eiuley. Extras were kindly contributed by Misses Eileen Eeuihau and Neylon and Mrs J. Webb. Messrs J. Gillies and S. Dudson carried out the duties of M’s.C. efficiently. An appreciation is due to Miss K. Spelman for supplying the music free of charge, also the lady members of the Catholic congregation for supplying such a plentiful and tasty suppar, and the young men who went to considerable trouble In the preparation of the floor for dancing. Thanks Is extended to all who in any way contributed to the success of the evening. The secretaries, Messrs Eevett and S. Dudson, are to be congratulated on the success attending their efforts, and the financial results of the social should be most satisfactory.
