ANGLICAN MISSION.

There is a great deal of enthusiasm being shown all over the Dominion, in the Anglican Church, over the coming mission. Already some of the Missioners have arrived fiom England and others will be coming in a few days. In the parish of Foxton there is a distinct sign of zeal and work. Already members of the vestry and others have delivered a letter from the four-runners of the mission, and now they are busy with the delivery of the vicar’s letter. The vicar tells us that to-day he received the letter from the Bishop, and later he will deliver this personally to each member ot his congregation. The choirmaster, Mr Betty, has not been idle, each Friday there has been a special practice for the mission hymns, and on Sunday afternoons he has taught the children. Friday evenings have been set apart for prayer on behalf of the mission—a special litanv being used. We should like to refer to the vicar’s letter. It is addressed to his parishioners and deals solely with the coming mission in October. He explains the reason and need of the mission : “Why is the mission coming to us ? It is going to help us to withdraw our souls from the world and re-direct them to God—to look back on the past and learn from its failures and to repent of its sins—to look forward and survey the way and work before us, and prepare ourselves for it.” He then goes on to explain the secret of the mission: “God has a special message for each one of us. What that message is we cannot say, but God’s Holy Spirit will reveal it, and the message will be according to the needs of each.” The vicar then puts some questions, which, when thought over, will lead to attending the mission, and gives a table of services from October 9th to the 12th. The letter closes with a quotation from St. Augustine showing that the life lived with God is the only real and happy one and a life of freedom. The immortal words of St. Augustine : “Thou hast made us unto Thyself, and our heart is restless until it rests in Thee,” shows the joy of true Christians that God should be the sole object of worship and adoration.
