FOOTBALL.
What promises to be the most interesting game this season will be played on the racecourse on Saturday between Awahou and Albion. This match will complete the competition for the Austin Banner, but if Awahou win the match it will be necessary lo play a final in order to decide the championship. The three previous occasions on which these two teams have met this season the games have resulted in scoreless draws, and as the clubs on Saturday will be represented by practically the same teams as in the former matches, a very close and interesting game should result. The kick-off will take place at 3 o’clock sharp, and Dr Adams will control the game.
The team to represent Foxton in the return match against Horowhenua to be played on the racecourse on Saturday, August 20th, will be selected at the conclusion of Saturday’s cup fixture.
The following team has been chosen to represent Albion, on Saturday :—Full-back, W. Cook ; three-quarters, Furrie, Dunn Hohio; five-eights, B. and K. Perewhiti; halt, Osboldstoue ; wing, Royal; forwards, Martin, Desmond, Curtis, Puti, Havana, Batkins, Bowe. Enter., Jennett and Dunn.
The following team will •represent Awahou in the match against Albion on Saturday afternoon: — Wauklyn, Frankland, Rori, Matthew, Redgrave, Broughton, Joe, Jefferies, Reid, Hooker, Miller, Hudson, Saville, Rehana, Beaton, Emer., Robinson.
At Palmerston North yesterday, Wairarapa defeated Manawatu by it points to nil, after what has been described as one of the deadest exhibitions of inter-Union Rugby ever seen in Palmerston.
