ANGLICAN SOCIAL.
A very enjoyable and successful social, under the capable management of Mesdames Jenks and Barber, was held in All Saints’ schoolroom on Tuesday night. The function was in aid of the piano fund and by 8 o’clock the schoolroom was well filled, which shows that; the promoters were well rewarded for their efforts. The programme submitted was a good one and by the applause each performer received showed that it was greatly appreciated by those present. The orchestra, under the couductorship of Mr Betty, opened the programme with an overture, which was much enjoyed. Mr Buclass then rendered “‘The Village Blacksmith” in a pleasing manner. Mrs Swannell’s rendering of “Come Birdie Come” was a treat to listen to. A picoio solo by Mr Moran was also greatly appreciated and he had to respond to a well deserved encore. The Glee Party’s rendering of “The Traveller” was excellent and the party had to respond with a second number. Mr Collins made his first appearance before a local audience, and his song was very well rendered, and merited Ihe encore he received. A recitation given by Mrs Stevenson which met with much applause. Miss Signal’s song, “Jack and I were Children,” was well given, as also was a cornet solo by Mr A. Rimmer. Mr Nesbit, who also made his debut, pleased the audience with his rendering of “Tommy, Lad.” A duet by Mrs Swannell and Miss Signal was very nicely given and much appreciated. Mr Fowler came next with “Sometimes Dear Heart,” and received a wellearned encore. The next item was a flute solo by Mr Walden, who, for the first time appeared before a Foxton audience, and he had to respond to an encore. Mrs Boyes’ number was given in her usual finished style. A duet, which was much enjoyed, was then given by Messrs Jenks and Buclass. MrC. Linley’s song was very we 1 ! rendered and he had to respond to an encore. The rendering of “Home Sweet Home” by the Glee Party was splendidly given and concluded a much enjoyed programme. Prior to refreshments being handed round, the Rev G. Y. Woodward, in a few well chosen words thanked the promoters and all those who had helped to make the affair a success. During the evening accompaniments were played by Misses Furrie, Jenks, Signal, Mrs Boyes and Mr Collins. The singing of the National Anthem brought a very enjoyable evening to a close.
