JOHNSON AND JEFFRIES.
Skatti.k, June 21. San Francisco reports state that Jeffries and Johnson fight in the afternoon of July qth, at Reno, Nevada. It is absolutely certain the battle will take place. An arena seating 25,000 people will be built immediately. Jeffries broke his camp on Tuesday and came to San Francisco. He departs for Reno on Wednesday. Johnson leaves on Thursday. Both men are in perfect condition. Fruitless pressure has been brought against the Governor, Mr Dickerson, of Nevada, to stop the fight. Mr Dickerson says the battle is lawful and honest. Tex Rickard, the promoter, is his personal friend.
Reno is on the principal railroad, and is ten hours from San Francisco, aud cheap excursions are planned. Enormous crowds are expected. The receipt ß are not likely to be decreased by the removal.
Both fighters make a change in their training methods. There will be more boxing and less running henceforth. Reno is situated in a dusty d«sert, unfavourable ior running.
There is a general feeling ol relief among sportsmen that the here-to-fore uncertainty is removed.
Eangford and Ketchell fight at Reno on the morning of July 4th. Bloodshed is ieared if Johnson wins. The race feeling is verystrong at Reno, where there are 15,000 inhabitants. Thirty thousand visitors are expected, and there is no possibility of controlling the mob if rioting begins.
