HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
Thk annual meeting of the local Horticultural Society held last night disclosed a very satisfactory year, for after meeting all expenses, and some left over from the previous year, the society carry forward a credit balance of nearly ,£l7. Apart from the success of the shows a wider interest is now being taken by residents in floral and horticultural matters. The society has more than justified its existence and in the words of the President can look forward with hope and confidence to the future. Not a little of the past success is due to the enthusiasm of the president, Mr Alex Speirs, and we congratulate the society upon again retaining his services as President. A special mead ot praise is also due to the ladies and to the indefatigable secretary, Mr J. T, Levett. That the society is now firmly established, we entertain no doubt, and it is deserving oi public support. The recommeudatiou to the committee to consider the holding of a juvenile show is worthy of serious consideration. We wish the society every success.
